Scheme Progress - 1 June 2004

All sites at Hythe are now finished apart from the installation of some hand railings at a couple of locations.

At Sandgate Esplanade, work is progressing well on the wave wall, which is now over 50% complete. Work is under way on the raising of the maintenance gangway behind Coast Guard Cottages and will commence this week at the eastern end where the first operation will be to clear the shingle. At The Riviera, the first few concrete slabs were successfully poured last week (Photo) and the sub contractor proposes to pour at least four slabs every other day where possible. There are significant problems with access here, which means that the concrete has to be pumped in from the western end of Marine Walk.

The rock work is progressing well with the barge deliveries set to be completed at the end of the month. Placement continues on the last four rock structures with no significant delays. (Photo) Planning for the concrete walkway on the large rock headland is ongoing and the large diameter concrete support rings are being prepared for placement as soon as the core rock is in place.

The extension to the two sea outfalls is due to start on 8 June and is expected to take about 4 weeks to complete.

We are now at the halfway point of the Scheme.
