Scheme Progress - 11 June 2004

At Sandgate Esplanade, work is progressing well and is nearly complete apart from a few accesses and some jointing. Work is well under way on the raising of the maintenance gangway behind Coast Guard Cottages and at the eastern end. The first of the slabs should be poured next week. At The Riviera, the contractor is pouring up to 14 slabs each week so progress is up to schedule.

The rock work is still on target with the last rock delivery expected in about 3 weeks time. All of the 4 structures are taking shape and can be seen at low tide from the vantage point on the Leas.

The extension to the two sea outfalls started as planned this week and the piles are in place ready to receive the pipes.

The 'Volvox Iberia', the dredger for the beach nourishment is due to arrive on 21 June and this operation is expected to take 10 weeks. A total of 350,000m³ will be deposited on the beach. This equates to around 3 trips/day with a load of 3,000m³/trip.
