Dymchurch Scheme Development
Following completion of the Folkestone to Rye Strategy Study Babtie Brown and Root and HR Wallingford have been engaged by the Environment Agency, working in partnership with Shepway District Council, to develop a detailed sea defence scheme for the Dymchurch frontage, from High Knock to Dymchurch Redoubt. This area is currently defended by the following defence types, all of which will be improved to provide a consistent and appropriate defence standard.
The sea defences from Dymchurch Village to Dymchurch Redoubt are much older than those adjacent to Littlestone-on-Sea. The orignal clay embankments have been progressively clad on their seaward face, protected on the crest and have had rear return walls added at various dates. Due to falling beach levels, sloping front aprons, originally of masonary contruction, have had to be extended, patched with concrete, and at the easterly end clad with concrete panelling.
