This Section of the report presents an overview of the study area and is presented in four parts:

Part I: A historical overview of coastal development

Part I considers the historical development of the coastline and land use within the study area

Part II: Present day natural and human setting

Part II presents the baseline environmental conditions, including local community recreation and nature conservation interests

Part III: Existing defences and process interactions

Part III presents an overview of the existing defences, how they are maintained and the interactions that exist between them

Part IV: Consultation (issues and concerns)

Part IV presents a summary of the issues and concerns raised through the consultation process
